Alan David “Rey” Picasso showed boxing, power and a good management of rhythm and distance, to categorically prevail over Argentine boxer Pablo Ariel “Pablito” Gómez, in the main fight of the show presented by Zanfer in Monterrey, Mexico.
Picasso (22-0-1, 11 KO's) imposed the conditions from the first round, with precise and powerful combinations. The body shot was the basis of his strategy.
The Argentine “Pablito” Gómez (17-12-2, 1 KO) showed resistance and courage and came forward. He wanted to force the fight at short-range due to his disadvantage in height and reach and was able to reach Picasso's body on some occasions, but he did not have the consistency or continuity to stay on top of that strategy.
With each passing round, Picasso boxed with greater authority and control in the fight. His punches were more and more lethal, and "dished out the punishment frequently.
Picasso's punishment to the body was followed by right hands and crosses that put Gómez in trouble.
The end finally came in the opening moments of the sixth round, with Gómez on the ropes. Picasso attacked with both hands - and a hook to the liver, one the many that landed, but this time he put the Argentine boxer on the canvas. Gomez was laying on the mat in obvious pain.
Despite the fact that his corner threw in the towel, the referee continued to count, and the fighter got up, but correctly the fight was stopped.
